The Ganga Times, Gaya: Despite economic slowdown and disastrous impact on the job sector due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Patna has set a new milestone as it surpassed the record for maximum and average packages to its students during these tough times.
Last year, the maximum package of 38 lakhs was bagged by a IIT Patna student, whereas, this time 3 M-Tech students Rakutin Avinash Singh, Nidhi Thakur and Rajiv Roshan are offered a package of around 59 lakhs each by the Japanese multinational company.

As per in charge of training and placement, Dr. Kripashankar Singh the placement is much better than expected. Students are captivating multinational companies towards their talent. Last year, 95 companies joined the IIT Patna placements process whereas, this time over 111 organisations have participated in it offering job opportunities to more than 200 students.
The IIT Patna placement process has already been concluded for the session of 2019-20 and by 12 per cent the campus placement has improved as compared to previous year.
For B.Tech course, placement is recorded at 94.35 percent. MTech course has witnessed great hike in placement at 62.50 per cent. Big companies like Rakuten, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and more have shown great interest in the students of this institute.
These attractive job at IIT Patna placements to the students hold great importance as COVID-19 pandemic has left unfortunate impact on many sectors and left lakhs of youth jobless. Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) which is a private think tank had published a report this year highlighting that over 60 lakh white-collar professionals have lost their jobs due to the lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.
Talking about the highest packages in IIT Patna placements, a B.Tech student received Rs 47 lakh annual package from D. E. Shaw & Co., which is the highest domestic offer in the ongoing placement season. Microsoft has offered a package of Rs 43.5 lakh per annum to a CSE student. Another CSE student was offered a package worth Rs 40 lakh per annum by D. E. Shaw & Co.
In the month of June 2020, a report was shared by the Periodic Labour Force Survey that implicated that unemployment rate among Bihar youths is growing at the rate of 30.9%.
