The Ganga Times, Mizoram News: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that his state is ready to welcome refugees from Myanmar. Any persecuted people and ethnic Mizo would be welcomed by the people and government of Mizoram with open arms.

Since the military coup in Myanmar that led to crackdown on pro-democracy organisations, the government of Mizoram is propping up on the possibility of welcoming refugees from the neighbouring country. The state home minister Lalchamliana said that officials wo oversee districts near the Indo-Burmese border have been alerted.

Although the official decision on refugees will be taken by the law of the land, what I personally feel is that anyone who need shelter, especially an ethnic Mizo, should be welcomed in the state.

There has been no reports of refugees entering Mizoram from neighbouring Myanmar, clarified officials of districts that border the Buddhist nation. Now, it’s upto the central government to have a look into the matter and we’ll see whether CM Zoramthanga’s statement has some weight or not.
