Oceans cover almost 71 percent of the planet and are home to a number of aquatic animal species. The humankind relies on oceans for food and livelihood. Now is the time to pay their debt back and save the oceans.
Nobody can deny the fact that we are totally dependent on nature for everything that we have or we claim to have ours. We are enjoying the opulence of nature in whatever way possible. But the sad part is that we seldom care about this environment which has given us such precious gifts. While enjoying the beauty of beaches, the world forgets to save the oceans, mother of these scenic beaches from getting polluted. Here, I will talk about 4 ways we can contribute to protecting our beautiful oceans and beaches during our journeys.
No single-use plastic water bottle, not even complementary one to save the oceans.
Believe it or not, plastic bottles are the biggest contributor of beach pollution. I have seen Bisleri and Aquafina bottles thrown on the beaches of Goa and Chennai. People take pride in purchasing these branded water bottles, ignoring the danger of pollution. These plastic products take hundreds of years to recycle. So, my suggestion is to avoid plastic bags, bottles, and every other single-use plastic products.
Carry your own bottles for water and save the oceans
Instead, you should carry your own durable water bottle, which I do on my every trip. Along with the oceans, this can be hugely beneficial to you and your health.
Say no to straws
This is a personal request to you that do not use a straw and save the oceans. These plastic straws are really dangerous for aquatic animals. While eight million tons of plastic wastes are thrashed in oceans every year, these straws get embedded in marine animals’ body parts and harm them. And believe me most of the straw uses are irrelevant as people can have beverages without straws easily.
I never use straws while having juice or any other beverages. If you really care for aquatic creatures and ocean pollution, do not use a straw for the sake of our environment and its beauty.
Do not throw waste products on beaches
Beach life is extremely beautiful. In fact, beaches are the most popular sites of interest for travellers. With increase in the number of restaurants near beaches, pollution is a major problem to be solved. After having burgers, we normally throw wrappers on beach-side which increases the adulteration of ocean water.
You should take proper care while disposing food wastes while on beaches. In order to save the oceans, throw waste products at proper places, in dustbins.
