Toyota to discontinue making Yaris; cited dipping sales & shifting buyer preferences

The Ganga Times, Business: TKM Yaris will see no more further production. The C-segment sedan was launched three years ago by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM). The company said, it will stop making Yaris due to drastic fall in sales in the last few years.

It is believed that today’s buyers are interested more in SUVs that sedans — one of the major reasons behind Yaris not being able to compete in the market. Yaris’ sell was going through a rough patch for long, forcing Bangalore-based company to halt the production.

According to TKM, this is part of the company’s plan to continue to cater to the ever-evolving needs of the customer through enhanced technologies and product offerings.

The company’s reads, “We would like to continue to serve such customers with other current offerings and preparations are underway to launch new Toyota models in the coming new year 2022.”

The company has earlier claimed this model as a truly top-class, versatile sedan, having potential to win many hearts. With this decision, it is believed that TKM will suffer to survive in the Indian automobile market that us undergoing huge choice transformation.

“TKM remains committed to delivering ever-better cars with the most advanced and sustainable technologies to the Indian customers. The company will continue to leverage its leadership and vast expertise in cleaner technologies to refresh its product portfolio to meet the evolving customer choices and enable a greener mobility,” the company said.

Despite the setback, Toyota believes it will continue to serve its customers through their dealer service outlets across the country. Genuine spare parts of Yariswill also be made available for a minimum of 10 years.
