AIMIM plans Tamil foray; contesting 2022 Tamilnadu local elections

TGT Desk Chennai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), after getting grand successes in various state elections across India, is planning to expand its reach in the Tamil turf. Asaduddin Owaisi-led party is all set to make its mark in Tamil Nadu’s local body election, scheduled to be held on February 19. The state government has already declared a public holiday on the day of polling.

Various leaders of AIMIM are campaigning for party candidates. They are quite confident that the party will be successful in announcing its entry into Tamilnadu politics with a bang. Talking to TGT, AIMIM leader and Shaikpet (Hyderabad) Corporator Mohammed Rashed Farazuddin told that we are here on the direction of Party president Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi. While campaigning for his party candidates, the GHMC Standing Committee Member seemed quite optimistic about the results in the upcoming local body elections in Tamilnadu. During the campaign, Mr. Farazuddin seemed busy meeting with people and making them aware of the party’s roadmap for development.

He said, “I’m carrying the blessings of Owaisi saheb. Our whole team is fighting the election with enormous commitment and we’re confident to begin pro-people politics from the ground level”.

A total of 57,778 candidates are in the fight for the polls that will decide who will fill the 12,607 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, and 489 town panchayats. A couple of days back, the election commission had announced that 218 candidates were elected unopposed after about 19.1% of nominations were withdrawn in the last minutes.
