Bihar Election First Phase: Voting begins on 71 seats including Gaya, Jehanabad amid Covid rules

As many as 8 ministers of the Nitish Kumar cabinet will be under public scanner when Bihar votes in the first phase on 28 October.

GT Desk Gaya, Bihar: The first phase of Bihar Assembly poll started this morning with tight security deployment and Covid-19 guidelines being followed in booths. The polling began with complaints of Electronic Voting  Machines (EVMs) not working properly at several places. Although defective machines have been replaced, as per Election Commission of India.

According to the provisional data of Election Commission, over 18.31% turnout has been recorded in Bihar till 11 AM.Lakhisarai and Nawada were leading with 26.7 and 23.4 % respectively. Capital Patna remains the place of lowest turnout with just above 5% till 11 AM.

COVID-19 guidelines have impacted the polling rules in the state with the maximum number of voters for a polling booth lowered to 1000 from 1600. Electronic Voting Machines have been properly sanitised before the poll. Facilities such as 

About 2.15 crore electors are eligible to vote in the 2020 Bihar Election. Of which 1.12 crore are male, 1.01 crore are female and 599 have registered themselves as third gender, as per ECI data.
