Maharashtra invites Tesla to invest in the state, making way for Elon Musk’s entry in India

Maharashtra’s minister of tourism Aditya Thackeray, shared a tweet on Thursday, stating he and the Minister for Industries & Mining Subhash Desai held a video call with Tesla.

Mumbai: The Government of Maharashtra, in its bid to fetch auto investments, is in talks with Elon Musk’s Tesla, Inc. Two of the state ministers — Aditya Thackeray and Subhash Desai held a video call with the Tesla team, inviting the American EV auto giant to make investments in India. The tweet reads, “This evening I had the opportunity to participate in a video call by Industries Minister @Subhash_Desai ji with @Tesla team to invite them to Maharashtra. I was present not because of just the investment but my firm belief in electric mobility & sustainability @elonmusk.”

In another tweet, Maharashtra Chief Minister’s son said, “We are firmly committed to policy building and changes for sustainable development and I personally believe that electric mobility, supported by renewable energy is the way ahead. Let’s hope we can help this thought become mainstream soon.”

Maha’s invitation came just days after Elon Musk had hinted at an entry into the Indian market in 2021.

“Next year for sure,” said Tesla CEO on Twitter in a reply to a photo message that read,”India wants Tesla”.

Earlier, there were also reports of Tesla showing interest in setting up a research center in Karnataka. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami is also in talks with the global Electric Vehicle company.
