New GPS-Based Fog Safety Devices in Indian Railway

The railway administration is now installing GPS-based fog safety devices in all mail and passenger trains. These devices will help trains run faster and safer during foggy weather. With the installation of these devices, train speeds will increase by 15 km per hour—from the previous limit of 60 km per hour to 75 km per hour during foggy conditions.

Additionally, bright reflective strips are being placed on all signal posts and barriers to improve visibility for train operators. These steps have been taken to ensure safe and secure train travel during the foggy winter season.

A total of 857 fog safety devices have been distributed across the North Eastern Railway zone. Out of these, 315 devices are for the Lucknow division, 193 for the Izzatnagar division, and 349 for the Varanasi division. These upgrades will help trains run more reliably and reduce delays caused by poor visibility.

Has occurred. This means that now trains can run at 25 percent higher speed during fog than before.
In this regard, CPRO Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the fog safe device has increased the confidence of loco pilots. Signal information continues to be received through this device. Now the need of sending fog signal man has also ended.
