Half of Bihar’s first greenfield expressway, the Amas Darbhanga Expressway, has been completed, marking a significant milestone in transforming the state’s transportation infrastructure under the Bharatmala initiative.
The Amas Darbhanga Expressway, Bihar’s first green expressway, is making significant progress, with 50% of the construction work completed. Spanning 189 kilometers, this transformative project, approved under the Bharatmala initiative, is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Designed as a six-lane, access-controlled expressway, it is poised to revolutionize Bihar’s transport infrastructure, which has long awaited modernization.
The first green expressway of Bihar aims to reduce travel time by approximately four hours, enhancing connectivity between North and South Bihar. Starting at Amas in Gaya district and ending at Bela Nawada in Darbhanga, it will link major cities like Aurangabad, Gaya, Patna, and Darbhanga. Strategically positioned, it begins on the Delhi-Kolkata NH-19 and meets NH-27, intersecting seven districts. Towns along its route include Ramnagar, Sabalpur, Chak Sikandar, Ibrahimpur, and Bela Nawada.
Scheduled for inauguration in 2024, the expressway is expected to boost Bihar’s economic growth by facilitating trade, creating jobs, and improving road connectivity. Local farmers and businesses will benefit significantly from enhanced transportation efficiency and reduced travel costs.
Bihar First Green Expressway From Amas to Darbhanga Work Update
While 50% of the work is complete, challenges such as land acquisition, environmental approvals, and financing hurdles remain. However, the government is determined to resolve these issues and accelerate construction. If delays occur, the project may extend into 2025.
Once operational, the Amas Darbhanga Expressway will not only improve intra-state connectivity but also contribute to regional development by linking rural and urban areas. It symbolizes a step toward modern infrastructure and economic transformation for Bihar.
