The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 is also know as Chennai Chess Olympiad is rganised by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE). The Chennai Chess Olympiad was initially supposed to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, along with the Chess World Cup 2019, but was moved to Moscow and scheduled for the period from 5 to 17 August 2020. The chess Olympiad 2022 Date is from 28 July to 10 August 2022; It has been changed many times due to Covid and Russian – Ukrainian war. 44th Chess Olympiad was initially supposed to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, along with the Chess World Cup 2019, but was moved to Moscow and scheduled for the period from 5 to 17 August 2020. However, it was postponed due to the growing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic and finally relocated to Chennai following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Chess Olympiad 2022 Logo and Mascot
The official Chess Olympiad 2022 Logo, mascot and hashtag were unveiled by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, AICF President Dr Sanjay Kapoor and AICF Secretary and Olympiad Tournament Director Bharat Singh Chauhan in Chennai. The chess Olympiad logo is designed in India only for Chennai Chess Olympiad. The mascot is named ‘Thambi’ (transl. younger brother), a Chess Knight dressed in the traditional Tamil male attire veshti with a white shirt and is seen with folded hands, apparently extending the Tamil greeting ‘Vanakkam’
Chess Olympiad History
The first Olympiad was unofficial. For the 1924 Olympics, an attempt was made to include chess in the Olympic Games but this failed because of problems with distinguishing between amateur and professional players. FIDE organised the first Official Olympiad in 1927 which took place in London. Each FIDE-recognized chess association can enter a team into the Olympiad. Each team is made of up to five players, four regular players and one reserve.

Chess Olympiad is conducted on every two years. FIDE organised the first Official Olympiad in 1927 which took place in London. The 1st Chess Olympiad winner was Hungary. In 2008, 38th Chess Olympiad winner was Armenia. In 2010, 39th Chess Olympiad winner was Ukraine. In 2012, 40th Chess Olympiad winner was Armenia. In 2020, Online Chess Olympiad was conducted first time and winner was India and Russia. In 2021, second Online Chess Olympiad was played and winner was Russia. Currently 44th Chess Olympiad is going on in Chennai, India.
