Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat To Be Inaugurated By PM Modi in Fourth Week of Jan 2025

The Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express is expected to launch in fourth week of January 2025, if all the work will go smoothly.

Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the train, which will connect New Delhi to Kashmir through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). Currently, there is no direct train from Delhi to Kashmir. The train will pass over the iconic Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge, standing 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower.

Out of the 272-km USBRL project, 255 kilometres have been completed. The remaining 17 kilometres between Katra and Reasi are set to be finished by December 2024. Singh emphasized that safety checks are ongoing and all aspects will be thoroughly inspected before the train’s inauguration.

The Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express will ease travel challenges for Kashmir residents, especially during winters when highways often close. It is also expected to boost tourism, trade, and the transport of local products like fruits and vegetables to Delhi, creating economic opportunities.

Challenges in Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express Train

The USBRL project was declared a “National Project” in 2002. Major milestones include the completion of the 118-km Qazigund-Baramulla section in 2009, the 18-km Banihal-Qazigund section in 2013, and the 25-km Udhampur-Katra section in 2014. The project features engineering marvels such as the Chenab Rail Bridge and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.

Singh praised the efforts of engineers and project teams, including IRCON International Limited and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, for overcoming technical challenges. The train will feature modern facilities with 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches, and one First AC coach.

The Delhi to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express marks a significant step in connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, enhancing tourism, and showcasing India’s engineering excellence.
