The Indian Railways intends to introduce the Srinagar Jammu Vande Bharat Express on the Jammu-Srinagar route once the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) reaches completion. This strategic initiative aims to enhance connectivity and offer high-speed rail service to travellers along this significant route. Currently, the absence of a direct train between Jammu and Srinagar necessitates travel by car or bus, leading to extended journey durations.
This road-dependent connectivity has resulted in heavy road traffic and an approximately 10-hour travel time between Jammu and Srinagar. The forthcoming introduction of the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is poised to revolutionize this scenario. With its swift and comfortable service, the travel time between Jammu and Srinagar is anticipated to shrink from 10 hours to a mere 4 hours, offering passengers a significantly expedited and enhanced travel experience.
Customized Vande Bharat For Kashmir
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) is set to introduce customized Vande Bharat for Kashmir equipped with compartment heating facilities specifically designed for the Jammu and Kashmir region. According to General Manager B G Mallya, these trains are expected to be rolled out next year. This development aims to provide enhanced comfort and convenience for passengers travelling in colder climates, catering to the unique needs of the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
In addition to the interior compartment heating facilities, the upcoming Vande Bharat for Kashmir region will incorporate heating provisions for water lines. Recognizing the challenges posed by freezing weather conditions, these trains will feature special measures to ensure that the water remains at a suitable temperature and prevents freezing. These specialized pipes and mechanisms are designed to safeguard against freezing and potential breakage, thereby ensuring a seamless and comfortable travel experience even in extremely cold conditions.
When Will Vande Bharat For Kashmir Start?
According to media reports, Vande Bharat for Kashmir service is to be officially inaugurated on 25 February 2024. This will be the first Vande Bharat Express for Kashmir and the second Vande Bharat Express for Jammu.
