The inaugural winner of the IPL orange cap was the former Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh. He scored 616 runs with an impressive average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68. Marsh also hit 5 fifties and one hundred during the season.

IPL Orange Cap Winners 2009

Former Australian opener and two–time ODI World Cup winner Matthew Hayden won the orange cap in 2009, with 572 runs across 12 innings while playing with CSK. Matthew Hayden scored a short run with an average of 52, the strike rate was 144.81 and they scored 5 fifties.

IPL Orange Cap Winners 2010

The third orange cap winner in the IPL was legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin scored 618 runs with a strike rate of 132.61 while playing with the Mumbai Indians. He has scored 5 fifties with an average of 47.55.

In his first season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chris Gayle did well, winning the IPL orange cap. He scored 608 runs in 12 matches. Gayle also became the first IPL player in 2011 to hit two centuries in one season. He scored 618 runs with an amazing strike rate of 183, which is still the highest for any player who scored 600 runs in a single IPL season.

Chris Gayle won the second Orange Cup in 2012 and became the first player to win two consecutive Orange Caps in IPL history. He scored 733 runs, including seven fifties and one hundred. His strike rate was 160.74. He hit 59 sixes that year, which is still the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season.

Michael Hussey is the third Australian player on the orange cap winners list in IPL. He scored 733 runs with an average of 61.08 and a strike rate of 129.5. He wins the Orange Cup while playing with CSK.

Robin Uthappa is the first player in the IPL history that the orange cap winner also won the tournament. In 2014, Uthappa played with KKR, and KKR won the IPL. He also becomes the second Indian player to win an orange cap in IPL. Robin scored 660 runs with a strike rate of 137.7 and 5 fifties.

In 2015, David Warner became the fourth Australian cricketer to win the IPL orange cap. He was also the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. David Warner managed to score 562 with the help of seven fifties. He scored 562 runs with a strike rate of 156.54.

In the 2016 IPL season, Virat Kohli scored 973 runs, which is still the record for the most runs scored in a single IPL season. He hit 4 amazing centuries and seven fifties during that season. Kohli was the third Indian player to have an orange cap after Utthapa and Sachin.

David Warner made it to the orange cap winners list in IPL for the second time. He scored 641 runs in 14 innings, helping the Sunrisers reach the playoffs, although they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Warner’s 641 runs included four fifties and one hundred.

Kane Williamson became the first player from New Zealand to make it to the Orange Cap winners in 2018. His 735 runs in 17 innings helped to win the orange cap in IPL.

David Warner won the IPL orange cap for the third time in 2019, which is still the highest number of orange cap wins by any player. He scored 692 runs in just 12 innings for the Sunrisers, with an impressive average of 69.20. Warner also scored a brilliant century against Kolkata during that season.

KL Rahul won an orange cap in 2020 while playing with KXIP. He scored 670 runs with an average of 55.8 at a strike rate of 129.34. Rahul managed to score five fifties and one hundred in the 2020 IPL session.

In 2021, Ruturaj Gaikwad, an uncapped India player, won the orange cap while playing with CSK. Ruturaj also received the Emerging Player Award for his efforts. His 635 runs in 16 innings with four fifties and one hundred helps to win IPL orange cap.

Joseph Charles Buttle the captain of the England cricket team, won the orange cap in 2022 while playing with Rajasthan Royal. He scored 863 runs with a strike rate of 149. He has scored 4 fifties and 4 tons. Jos Buttler was the first England cricketer to win an IPL orange cap in 2022.

IPL Orange Cap Winners 2023

During the 2023 IPL, Shubhman Gill scored 890 runs, the second-highest run score by any player in the history of the IPL. His 890 runs during the 2023 session helped Shubhman Gill win an orange cap in the IPL. Gill scored 890 runs with a strike rate of 157. He scored four fifties and three hundred runs.
