Even after starting at 51 Vande Bharat Train, Puducherry is still waiting for its first Vande Bharat Express. Soon, Puducherry Vijaywada Vande Bharat Express is going to start, which will be the first Puducherry Vande Bharat.
Residents of Puducherry, affectionately known as Pondicherry, are facing a sense of impending concern. The city itself spans just around 20 square kilometers, yet it’s a major tourist drawcard. Although the entire district covers 293 square kilometers, Pondicherry’s appeal lies in its 25 kilometers of pristine beaches and clear waters, attracting a high number of visitors annually. Understandably, the alarm among Pondicherrians is palpable. For the New Year’s Eve of 2022-2023, their city emerged as the most searched destination, hosting around 400,000 revelers over the weekend.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Tirunelveli-Chennai Vande Bharat Express, Puducherry’s Lieutenant Governor, Tamilisai Soundararajan, expressed her thoughts. She mentioned how people are enjoying train travel and thanking the Prime Minister for making it happen. Being from Tamil Nadu herself, she finds train travel significant and personally enjoyable. She noted a change: earlier, there was a feeling that southern states were being overlooked, but she believes this perception has shifted since the BJP took power at the Centre with Narendra Modi as Prime Minister.
