Currently, the travel time from Agartala to Kolkata is more than 48 hours by train and road, but soon, you can travel from Agartala to Kolkata by train in just 8 hours.
The distance between Agartala and Kolkata is around 1515 km by road and railway line. Indian Railway is building a new rail line which will reduce the travel time between Kolkata and Agartala. The travel time between Agartala and Kolkata will soon be shortened to about 8 hours from the current 35-hour journey, covering just 545 km instead of 1546 km. India and Bangladesh currently have four active rail connections linking West Bengal and Western Bangladesh: Petrapole-Benapole, Gede-Darshana, Radhikapur-Biral, and Singhabad-Rohanpur.
As of now, the fastest train between Agartala and Kolkata takes around 35 hours to cover a distance of 1546 km. During the journey, the train crosses three Indian states: Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal. The distance between Tripura and West Bengal is not much, but due to the international border of Bangladesh, people travelling from Agartala to Kolkata have to take a long route.
How To Travel From Agartala To Kolkata in 8 Hours?
There is new railway line building betwen Agartala and Akhaura in Bangladesh. After completing the Agartala-Akhaura railway line, Bangladesh’s Akhaura through an international immigration station at Nischintapur along the India-Bangladesh border. Once the project is completed, the travel duration between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka will decrease significantly, dropping from 35 hours to just 8 hours.
The announcement brings joy to frequent travelers between Tripura and Kolkata. Julee Satkar, who has family in both places, expressed delight, saying, “This is fantastic news. We can easily travel back and forth on weekends. With shorter journey times, we can visit our families more often.” Once the travel time between Agartala and Kolkata will reduce it will help to boost tourism in West Bengal and Tripura. Agartala-Akhaura railway line will help increase tourist in Bangladesh.
