Every year, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority hosts the Best Tourist Friendly Station Award, an event that seeks to identify and celebrate the most exceptional railway station in the state based on a comprehensive set of nine criteria. On September 27th, as part of the State Annual Tourism Excellence Awards, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority convened a prestigious ceremony at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada to announce the winner. After careful evaluation, it was Vijayawada Railway Station that emerged victorious, claiming the title of the Best Tourist Friendly Station in Andhra Pradesh.

This remarkable achievement was a testament to Vijayawada Railway Station’s outstanding performance across all nine parameters established by the tourism authority. The overarching theme for this year’s award was ‘Tourism and Green Investments,’ aligning with the growing emphasis on sustainable practices in the tourism industry. The station’s representatives had the honor of receiving this prestigious award from none other than R.K. Roja, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Youth Advancement, signifying the station’s critical role in promoting tourism in the state.

Vijayawada Railway Station, also known as Vijayawada Junction, holds a prominent place in India’s extensive railway network. Situated strategically on the Howrah–Chennai and New Delhi–Chennai main lines, this railway hub has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1888. Today, it stands as a bustling transport hub, managing a staggering daily influx of 190 express trains and 170 freight trains. Such a high volume of train traffic places considerable demands on the dedicated railway staff who work tirelessly to ensure smooth operations.

The station’s infrastructure is designed to meet these challenges, boasting a total of 10 platforms. It exclusively operates broad gauge tracks that have been electrified to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Notably, Vijayawada Junction plays a pivotal role in connecting major cities across the country, facilitating seamless travel experiences for countless passengers.

During the award ceremony of Best Tourist Friendly Station, Narendra A. Patil, the Divisional Railway Manager in Vijayawada, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the station’s dedicated staff for winning the Best Tourist Friendly Station Award. He highlighted some of the station’s notable achievements, including its energy-saving initiatives, robust waste management systems, and passenger-centric amenities. These initiatives not only enhance the travel experience but also underscore the station’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
