Delhi Meerut RRTS full form is Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System. Delhi – Meerut RRTS start date was 8 March 2019, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the corridor.

The total distance of Delhi Meerut RRTS is 82 km. One the entire length of 82.50 km, 67.10 km is elevated, 14.15 km is underground, and 1.25 km will be at grade. Most of the distance of this route has been covered on elevated and underground levels. Only a 1.25 km distance is at the grad level, so two depots can connect easily. Duhai and Modipuram both depots are constructed at ground level.

The highest speed of Delhi Meerut RRTS is 180 km/h, but the operating speed will be only 160 km/h during the initial days for safety purposes. Loong-distance traveller’s fares will be quite low. There will be two classes in Delhi – Meerut RRTS, so fare will also depend on which class you are travelling. National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will announce the final fare after the trial run.

Delhi Meerut RRTS Cost and Funding

Delhi Meerut RRTS project cost is ₹30,274 crore, equal to US$3.8 billion. The project has gotten funding from many sources, about $1 billion from Asian Development Bank (ADB), $500 million from New Development Bank (NDB) and $500 million from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Contribution from governments is 20% from the Central government, 3.22% from the Delhi government, and from the Government of Uttar Pradesh: 16.78%.

Delhi Meerut RRTS Start Date

According to the sources, the first phase of Delhi – Meerut RRTS, which connects Sahibabad and Duhai, will start in the second week of July 2023. In the first phase, it will cover a distance of 17 km and connect four stations. The entire 82.50 km long Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is expected to be operational by May 2025. The 16 km Hazrat Nizamuddin to Sahibabad section is expected to start in December 2023.
