The longest bridge in Bihar is Mahatma Gandhi Setu which is 5.75 km long. It was inaugurated in May 1982 in a ceremony in Hajipur by then-prime minister Indira Gandhi. From 1982 to 2017, Mahatma Gandhi Setu remained the longest bridge in India and currently its the third longest bridge in India. The bridge has 45 middle sections, each measuring 121.065 meters (397.19 feet), and two end sections of 65.530 meters (214.99 feet) each. In recent years, the bridge has faced heavy traffic problems because of the growing number of vehicles crossing it.

The second longest bridge in Bihar is Vikramshila Setu which is 4.70 km long. The Vikramshila Setu is currently India’s 6th longest bridge. This bridge connects Bhagalpur to Naugachia. Vikramshila Setu is a bridge over the Ganges River, named after the ancient Vikramashila Mahavihara, a great center of learning established by King Dharmapala.

3. Digha–Sonpur Bridge

The third longest bridge in Bihar is Digha–Sonpur Bridge which is also known as J.P Setu. Digha–Sonpur Bridge is the longest rail cum road bridge in Bihar and the second longest rail-cum-road bridge in India. The total length of Digha–Sonpur Bridge is 4.55 km and its a India 8th longest bridge in length. After the bridge was completed, the first commercial train ran on it on February 3, 2016. The Digha–Sonepur rail bridge was then officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12, 2016.

4. Arrah–Chhapra Bridge

The fourth longest bridge in Bihar is Arrah–Chhapra Bridge which is also India’s 9th longest bridge. The total length of the Arrah–Chhapra Bridge is 4.35 km. Arrah–Chhapra Bridge is also know as Veer Kunwar Singh Setu is the longest multi-span extradosed bridge in the world. This is one of the important bridge provides a roadway link between the northern and southern parts of Bihar.

5. Munger Ganga Bridge

Munger Ganga Bridge which is also know as Shri Krishna Setu is the 5th longest bridge in Bihar and 10th longest bridges in India. The total length of Munger Ganga Bridge is 3.75 km. The bridge was officially opened for freight trains on March 12, 2016, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, it was opened for passenger trains on April 11, 2016, when Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha, flagged off the Begusarai-Jamalpur DEMU train.
