On April 25, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Kerala’s first Vande Bharat Express at Thiruvananthapuram Central. This fast train is a new thing for Kerala and can go 586 kilometres in 8 hours. It travels at an average speed of 73 kilometres per hour. The train stops at 8 places in Kerala: Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur Junction, Thrissur, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Kollam Junction, and Thiruvananthapuram. All these stops are in Kerala.
On September 24, 2023, Kerala welcomed its second Vande Bharat Express train. This new train will stop at various stations, including Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Junction, Thrissur, Ernakulam Junction, Alleppey, Kollam Junction, and Thiruvananthapuram. Starting from September 26, 2023, people can board and travel on the Kerala second Vande Bharat Express. Covering a distance of 574 kilometres in 7 hours and 53 minutes, this train offers ticket prices of 1515 rupees for AC Chair Car class and 2800 rupees for Executive Chair Car (EC) for journeys between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram. The second Vande Bharat in Kerala operates with train number 20631/20632.
Kerala Third Vande Bharat Express Route
The upcoming Kerala Third Vande Bharat Express route will link Ernakulam and Mangaluru, spanning 421 kilometres and connecting Kerala and Karnataka. Currently, seven trains run this route, with the fastest one taking about 8 hours and 15 minutes for the journey between Ernakulam Junction and Mangaluru Junction.

Sources indicate that the Kerala Third Vande Bharat Express will make stops at Thrisur, Shoranur Junction, Kozhikkode, Kannur, and Kasaragod between Ernakulam Junction and Mangalore Junction. Additionally, the train will pause for 2 minutes at every station along the route.

The Kerala Third Vande Bharat Express ticket price from Ernakulam Junction to Mangalore Junction is 1245 rupees for the AC Chair Car, including 302 catering charges, class and 2265 rupees for Executive Chair Car (EC), including 365 catering charges.
