What is Histotechnology? What’s its role in Paramedics?

Learn what is Histotechnology and what its importance are. This article talks about its role in modern paramedics education.

What is histotechnology?

The world witnessed a great importance of histotechnology during the COVID-19 pandemic. People have started talking about this field of study more than ever. Since the whole research of coronavirus is based on the study of cells and tissues, Histotechnicians have played a huge role in formulating vaccines and giving humanity a reason to laugh. It might not be an exaggeration to say that the coming era of medical study belongs to histotechnology.

What is Histotechnology?

Histotechnology is the study of anatomical tissue of plants and animals through microscopes to detect tissue abnormalities. This microscopic testing of tissue samples is carried out to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

The study of Histotechnology includes the knowledge of various chemical reactions that use specific chemical mixtures and synthetic dyes. Surgical pathologists are the ones who get the specimens ready for screening under the glass. The results of these chemical processes are now analysed through tissue composition, helping the professional Histotechnology expert (or Histotechnologist) observe how divergent the distinct tissue and it cellular formations are. This microscopic observance of these tissue cells is extremely crucial for guiding a clinical diagnosis.
