Sawan ka Pehla Somwar Katha in English

There was a moneylender, who had immense wealth. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and used to worship Lord Shiva on every Shravan Monday. The child was unhappy due to happiness, so he always wished Lord Shiva to get a son. One day, Bholenath, being pleased with his fast, gave him the boon of a son, along with it also told that his son would be dear to death after 12 years. Even after this, the moneylender, accepting the boon of Bholenath, continued the fast of Sawan Monday.

As soon as the son arrived in the family, there was an atmosphere of euphoria, before the age of 12, the moneylender sent his son along with his maternal uncle to Kashi to get an education. Unable to meet his nephew for a few days, then one day he went to his room. When he saw that his nephew was lying in a state of death, the maternal uncle started weeping at death of the nephew. Mother Parvati and Shiva listened to the crying of the child’s maternal uncle.

Lord Shiva saw that he is the only child who has to die in 12 years. On the other hand, Lord Shiva was also seeing that after the son did not return, the moneylender took a vow till the completion of 12 years after telling his wife that if his son did not return safely then both of them would also give up their lives. That is why on the same night Lord Shiva appeared in a dream to the moneylender and said I am pleased with your fast on Monday and give life to your son. In this way, the moneylender saved his son from premature death by fasting on Sawan Monday.

In this way, by observing fast on Sawan ka Pehla Somwar with full rules and regulations, Lord Shiva fulfils all the wishes of his devotee.
