Bihar Chief Secretary, a Judge, 3 Lawyers Die Due To Covid Complications

Chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh, former ADJ Piyush Kumar Srivastava and three High Court lawyers — Shivaji Nath, Ravindra Griyage, and Nirbhay Kumar Singh died due to Covid-19 on Friday.

The Ganga Times, Patna: In the last 24 hours, Bihar has lost its chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh, a 44 years old additional district judge, and 3 lawyers of Patna High Court. They all succumb to COVID-19. The senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer died in a hospital in Patna, where he was undergoing treatment for the disease.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled death of chief secretary after he recieved the news during a cabinet meeting, according to an official statement. He said death of the officer was an irreparable loss to the state’s administrative service.

The Chief Minister has announced that the 1985-batch officer will be cremated with full state honours. He had been appointed the chief secretary of Bihar in February this year. Senior IAS officer Deepak Kumar was serving this post earlier.

Additional District Judge Piyush Kumar Srivastava took his last breath at Sasaram Hospital. While the three lawyers — Shivaji Nath, Ravindra Griyage, and Nirbhay Kumar Singh died in Patna on Friday. Nath has previously served as the additional advocate general of Bihar.

On Friday, the total reported deaths in India were 3,498 — the highest ever. The second wave of Coronavirus is turning out to be a complete mess for the country, with 3,86,442 Covid cases in the last 24 hours — the biggest spike since the pandemic started.

Along with 3 lakhs daily cases, people are dying due to Oxygen shortage and lack of medical assistance in various parts of the country.

Talking about Bihar, the state currently has 1,00,822 active Covid-19 cases. The official data shows a total of 2,480 deaths.
