To meet the increasing demand for AC local trains, Western Railway has announced the introduction of 13 new AC local train services on the Mumbai suburban network starting Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
This expansion will increase the total number of AC services to 109 on weekdays and 65 on weekends, providing greater convenience and comfort to passengers. According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the decision comes in response to a significant rise in passengers opting for AC local trains. This growing preference for air-conditioned services reflects the need for enhanced facilities and comfort during travel. To accommodate this demand, Western Railway has decided to replace certain non-AC 12-car services with AC trains while maintaining the overall number of services at 1,406.
Details of New AC Services
The first of the newly introduced AC local trains will depart from Churchgate at 12:34 PM on November 27, 2024. Subsequent trains will run as per the revised timetable. The distribution of the 13 additional services is as follows:
Up Direction (Towards Churchgate):
- 2 services each between Virar-Churchgate and Bhayandar-Churchgate.
- 1 service each between Virar-Bandra and Bhayandar-Andheri.
Down Direction (Towards Suburban Stations):
- 2 services between Churchgate-Virar.
- 1 service each between Churchgate-Bhayandar, Andheri-Virar, Bandra-Bhayandar, Mahalaxmi-Borivali, and Borivali-Bhayandar.
Enhanced Travel Experience
These new services are designed to reduce overcrowding during peak hours and provide a seamless, comfortable journey for commuters. By increasing the availability of AC trains, Western Railway aims to encourage more passengers to opt for these modern services, ensuring a better travel experience across the suburban network.
Timetable and Assistance
Passengers can access the revised timetable for these services on the official Western Railway website or through the helpline. The overall number of suburban train services remains unchanged, offering a mix of regular and AC options to suit the varied needs of commuters.
With this expansion, Western Railway reiterates its commitment to improving passenger convenience and providing world-class services to Mumbai’s busy suburban commuters.
