Actress Daveigh Chase, widely recognized for lending her voice to Lilo in Lilo & Stitch and portraying Samara Morgan in the horror film The Ring, has died at the age of 35.

She passed away on 16 June 2026 in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later confirmed that the primary cause of her death was Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The official report also identified chronic polysubstance use as a contributing factor and classified her death as resulting from natural causes.

Following her passing, her longtime boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, shared that Chase had been receiving treatment for meningitis, a bloodstream infection, and complications caused by sepsis. In a heartfelt fundraising message, he spoke about the many hardships she experienced throughout her life, including a difficult upbringing, separation from her family, homelessness, and ongoing personal struggles. He said he had hoped to give her the love, care, and stability she had long been searching for.

Her father, John David Schwallier, also revealed that Daveigh had battled substance addiction since her teenage years. He explained that they had not spoken for more than 15 years and that she had been living in Los Angeles under challenging circumstances before her death. Daveigh Chase started acting as a child and became one of Hollywood’s well-known young performers. Her final screen credit came in 2016, when she voiced a character in the video game Let It Die.
