In a significant move to enhance rail connectivity and infrastructure in the northeastern region, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, along with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, flagged off several key projects on 3rd January 2025.

The event witnessed the inauguration of three new train services aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for passengers in Assam and neighboring states. The new trains include:

  1. Tinsukia-Naharlagun-Tinsukia Express (Train No. 15911/15912): This service aims to strengthen connectivity between Tinsukia in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh, fostering better inter-state travel.
  2. Guwahati-New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train (Train No. 55818/55817): Designed to improve local passenger movement, this train connects Guwahati with New Bongaigaon, an important junction in Assam.
  3. Guwahati-North Lakhimpur-Guwahati Jan Shatabdi Express (Train No. 12047/12048): This premium train enhances connectivity between Guwahati and North Lakhimpur, providing faster and more comfortable travel options for commuters.

Adding to the infrastructure development, the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tetelia was also dedicated to the nation during the event. This ROB is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and ensure smoother road and rail connectivity in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the government’s commitment to the holistic development of the northeastern states, highlighting the importance of improved rail connectivity for economic growth and regional integration. “These initiatives are part of our broader vision to ensure that the Northeast becomes a hub of development with world-class infrastructure,” he stated.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed similar sentiments, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Railways for prioritizing projects that directly benefit the people of Assam and its neighboring states. He highlighted how these projects would boost trade, tourism, and daily commutes, fostering overall development.

The launch was met with enthusiasm from the local community, with many applauding the efforts to modernize the region’s transportation network. The Northeast is witnessing a transformative era in infrastructure development, and the projects inaugurated today mark another milestone in this journey.
