BJP chief JP Nadda announced that Jagdeep Dhankhar, the current West Bengal governor, is the NDA’s candidate for the vice-presidential election scheduled for August 6, 2022.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has nominated West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for Vice President of India, BJP national president J P Nadda said Saturday. Known for his moniker ‘Kisan Putra, Dhankhar is a professional lawyer. He has had a successful legal career, where he became the youngest president of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association. He forayed into politics in 1989, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan the same year, and became a union minister in 1990.

Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 in Kithana, a small village in the State of Rajasthan, in a Jat Family. He was a member of parliament from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan during 1989–91 in the 9th Lok Sabha, representing Janata Dal. He also was a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kishangarh, Rajasthan, during 1993–98 and former President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur.

She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Italian, having learnt the Italian language at the Italian Embassy, New Delhi, and then in an Institute Rome in Italy.
