To enhance the spirit of Mahakumbh 2025, Indian Railways is decorating train coaches bound for Prayagraj with artistic depictions of the mystical beauty of the Sangam.
These uniquely designed trains will not only promote the Mahakumbh but also make it easier for pilgrims to recognize them from a distance. In the Gorakhpur Mechanical Factory, four trains are undergoing a transformation with vinyl wrapping, a plastic-coated painting technique. Of these, two trains have already been completed. These special trains will operate from Gorakhpur, Basti, and Gorakhpur Cantt stations, each featuring 16 general-class coaches.
Planned Routes and Special Services
According to the railway’s plan:
- Two trains will run from Gorakhpur Junction.
- One train each will depart from Basti and Gorakhpur Cantt stations.
- Additionally, 14 more special trains are being prepared to operate from Gorakhpur and nearby stations during the Mahakumbh season.
These trains, adorned with vinyl wraps, will showcase images of Ganga Ghats, the fort of Prayagraj, boats on the river, and other scenes associated with the Mahakumbh. The vinyl wrapping is being applied just below the windows, with the theme “Aao Chale Mahakumbh” (Let’s Go to Mahakumbh).
Rapid Progress on Themed Coaches
The coaches are being refurbished with great care and creativity. The trains consist of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) models, which have been repaired and revamped to appear visually striking. The unique designs on the exteriors of the trains will make them easily recognizable to pilgrims at stations.
The Northeast Railway Mechanical Workshop in Gorakhpur is working on four rakes, comprising a total of 80 coaches, with the Mahakumbh theme. So far, 23 coaches have been completed, and the work is progressing swiftly.
Record Number of Special Trains
In anticipation of a massive influx of pilgrims, Indian Railways is planning a record number of special trains for the Mahakumbh. The decorated trains aim to offer a memorable travel experience for devotees journeying to Prayagraj.
“These unique coaches will make the Mahakumbh experience even more special for travelers,” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Railway.
