On the Occasion of Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday, Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to all those police personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Shah also remembers those 343 personnel had lost their lives during the global pandemic of Coronavirus. India will always be indebted to those brave hearts for helping the country successfully battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Over 35 thousand police personnel have sacrificed their lives since 1947 till today. I want to tell their family members that this memorial is not made up of just bricks, stones and cement, it is also a reminder of every single drop of the martyrs’ blood that has taken India forward on the path of development and prosperity.”

Amit Shah was all praise for the police personnel of India. People of this great land can live in peace only because of those who have sacrificed their lives. “Even during festivals, policemen have to be alert all the time. While you celebrate festivals, a policeman still has to be on duty to make sure you are happy with your family,” said the Union Home Minister.

As we note, tributes keep coming from all parts of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra CM Jagan Reddy, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and West Bengal CM Mamata Banarjee including many others paid homage to the police forces of India.

Why is Police Commemoration Day celebrated?

Every year, the Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21st October in India. It is to remember and pay respects to the 10 CRPF jawans who lost their lives in an ambush by the Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Hot Springs region on October 21, 1959.
