Currently, two Vande Bharat Express trains are running between MGR Chennai Central to Mysuru and MGR Chennai Central to Coimbatore, which connects Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Tamil Nadu’s inaugural intra-state Vande Bharat train service, connecting Chennai and Coimbatore, on April 8, 2023, at Dr MGR Ramachandran Chennai Central Railway Station.
The first Vande Bharat Express train for Tamil Nadu was started between MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru on 11 November 2022, which covers a distance of 497 km in 06 hrs 30 mins with an average speed of 79 km/h. Tamil Nadu first Vande Bharat Express train connects two Indian states, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. This Vande Bharat train has two stoppages, MGR Chennai Central and Katpadi Junction in Tamil Nadu and the rest stoppages in Karnataka.

The route of Tamil Nadu Third Vande Bharat Express Train spans 652 kilometres, linking Chennai and Tirunelveli. This will be the second Vande Bharat Express in Tamil Nadu which has all stoppages in Tamil Nadu, including the sources and destination station. The first Vande Bharat Express in Tamil Nadu, which has sources and destination stations in Tamil Nadu, is Chennai Central to Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express.

Tamil Nadu Third Vande Bharat Express Train, which is going to start between Chennai and Tirunelveli, will stop at Villupuram Junction, Tiruchchirapli Junction, Madurai Junction and Virudhunagar Junction. Tamil Nadu Third Vande Bharat Express Train will cover a distance of 652 km in 8 hours with an average speed of 81.5 km/h.
